Brass Engraving

The Story

When Muslim families arrived in Moradabad, Uttar Pradesh with complex Persian patterns and sophisticated tools, they brought the technique of brass making with them. The Mughals and British both patronised this brass craftsmanship and according to historians, the skill of brass work has been prevalent in India for over 5 million years now.

Brass (a copper and zinc alloy) is appreciated for its golden luster, durability and weather resistance.
Our Zahira Brass Collection is sandcast, following which various craftsmen, from metal casters to engravers, work their magic on it.

Kalamkari, is Urdu, for pen work and this engraving is achieved with skillful thumps of the thapi (mallet) on fine, pointed chisels. There are two types of engraving - a shallow one called naqqashi or sada kalam, and a deeper engraving called khudai or sia kalam.

From the world's top brass producing country, we present to you the Floral Paatr Purse and the Foliage Lath Purse, available in both Gold and Silver finishes.
